A horrifying incident unfolded at a petrol pump in the Karmad area of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Thursday, where a 26-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband following a heated dispute over divorce. The police have confirmed that the tragic event occurred in the presence of petrol pump staff and several customers, creating a scene of panic and shock.
Victim Identified as Pooja Gavande
The deceased has been identified as Pooja Gavande, who was employed at a fuel station located near the Ganapati temple in Karmad. According to police reports, the incident took place in the afternoon when the accused, Satyam Gavande, who was Pooja's second husband, arrived at the petrol pump on a two-wheeler and confronted her while she was on duty.
Background of Marital Discord
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Superintendent of Police Vinaykumar Rathod provided details on the couple's troubled relationship. "Preliminary investigation revealed the couple was facing marital discord and did not live together. Satyam allegedly pressured Pooja to grant him a divorce as he wanted to remarry, but she refused, reportedly considering the future of her two young children from the first marriage," he stated.
The police further explained that Pooja's first husband had passed away some time ago, and she had married Satyam approximately six months back. However, due to growing differences and conflicts, she had started staying separately from him, which intensified the tensions between them.
Violent Escalation and Fatal Attack
During Thursday's confrontation, the argument escalated rapidly into violence. The police reported that the accused allegedly pulled out a sharp knife, pushed Pooja to the ground, and slit her throat repeatedly before bystanders could intervene. She died on the spot, leaving witnesses traumatized by the brutal nature of the attack.
Sources indicated that the petrol pump owner attempted to intervene during the assault, but the accused threatened him with the knife, forcing him to back off. This allowed the attacker to continue his violent act unchecked in the busy environment of the fuel station.
