A horrific incident in a village on the outskirts of Davanagere has resulted in the tragic death of a 38-year-old woman after she was viciously attacked by two Rottweiler dogs. The event, which occurred late on Thursday night, has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised serious questions about negligence and possible foul play.
A Fatal Walk Home After an Argument
The victim has been identified as Anita Halesh. According to details emerging from the police complaint, Anita had left her home in Mallashettihalli after an argument with her children. She was walking towards her parents' home in Vaddanahalli around 11 pm when the terrifying ordeal began. As she passed through Honnuru Gollarahatti village, the two powerful Rottweilers set upon her.
The attack was brutal and sustained. The dogs bit Anita in nearly 50 places across her body, inflicting grievous injuries on her legs, thighs, neck, face, and head. Hearing her cries, villagers rushed to her aid and managed to take her to a private hospital in Davanagere city. Given the severity of her wounds, she was being transferred to a hospital in Bengaluru for advanced treatment but, tragically, succumbed to her injuries en route.
CCTV Footage Reveals Suspicious Circumstances
The plot thickened significantly when closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area was examined. The footage revealed a disturbing sequence of events that occurred roughly an hour before the attack. Around 10 pm, a group of individuals arrived in an autorickshaw near the entrance to Honnuru Gollarahatti village. They were seen letting the two Rottweilers loose before leaving the scene.
Minutes later, around 11:30 pm, the same dogs attacked Anita as she walked past that location. This footage has become a central piece of evidence, transforming the incident from a possible stray dog attack into a case of suspected criminal negligence or worse. The police have stated that it is not clear why the dogs were abandoned at that spot.
Family Demands Probe, Villagers Take Action
Anita's brother, Krishna Chandrappa, has filed a formal complaint with the Davanagere Rural police station, explicitly suspecting foul play. He has demanded a thorough and swift investigation into the circumstances leading to his sister's death. Based on the CCTV evidence, the police have registered a First Information Report (FIR).
The anger and grief in the village were palpable on Friday. Residents managed to capture the two Rottweilers, tied them up, and paraded them through the village streets, highlighting the community's outrage. Villagers are urging the police to book those responsible for abandoning the dangerous dogs on charges of murder, arguing that the act was reckless and directly led to the loss of life.
The case remains under active investigation as authorities work to identify and apprehend the individuals seen in the autorickshaw. The tragic death of Anita Halesh underscores critical issues surrounding pet ownership, specifically of powerful breeds, and the severe consequences of irresponsible actions.
