Woman killed, two daughters injured in hit-and-run on highway

A 46-year-old woman was killed and her two daughters were seriously injured after a speeding car struck them while they were crossing the Ambala-Dera Bassi National Highway near Sarsini cut in Lalru on Saturday evening. The incident occurred around 6 pm, and the driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Victim and Injuries

The deceased has been identified as Usha Devi, a resident of Sarsini village. She died on the spot. Her daughter Shanu Shukla, 26, sustained a leg fracture, while her other daughter Shivani Shukla, 23, also suffered injuries. The injured were rushed to the Dera Bassi Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. Usha Devi's body was kept in the mortuary for post-mortem.

The Sarsini cut near Lalru on the Chandigarh-Ambala National Highway is a designated accident blackspot. According to reports, both the traffic police and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have implemented measures to prevent road accidents at this location, but the area remains hazardous.

According to locals, the victims were standing by the roadside when a speeding car travelling on the Chandigarh-Ambala carriageway hit them. The driver did not stop after the accident and fled the scene. Authorities are investigating the hit-and-run case.
