A 28-year-old woman from Dombivli, Maharashtra, lost gold and silver jewellery worth over Rs 2 lakh after allegedly being targeted by thieves inside an autorickshaw in the city. A complaint was filed with Kalupur police on Tuesday.
Incident Details
According to the FIR, Sharmila Sonar arrived at Kalupur railway station with her brother Deepak Soni and two children by Lokshakti Express from Mumbai. Outside the station, they boarded an autorickshaw already occupied by three men.
The driver allegedly diverted the route towards Sarangpur and later dropped the family near Khokhra Circle. On reaching her relative's house in Saijpur-Bogha, she discovered that a plastic box containing jewellery was missing from her trolley bag.
Police Investigation
Kalupur police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. Authorities are examining CCTV footage and questioning possible suspects to identify the thieves. The victim has urged the police to take swift action.
This incident highlights the need for vigilance while traveling in shared autorickshaws, especially with unknown individuals. Commuters are advised to keep their belongings secure and report any suspicious activity to the police.
