Woman robbed of gold, cash at gunpoint in Namakkal

COIMBATORE: A 58-year-old woman was robbed of 20 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 20,000 in cash at gun and knife points by two masked miscreants near Rasipuram in Namakkal district on Thursday night.

Incident Details

According to police, Kalaiselvi, 58, a widow who lives alone at her farmhouse in the Pattanam Amman Kovil Thottam area, visited her daughter's house in Rasipuram earlier in the evening and returned home around 8pm. Later, while she was watching television, two unidentified men wearing masks barged into her house after arriving on a two-wheeler.

Robbery at Gunpoint

The intruders held Kalaiselvi at gunpoint and placed a knife against her throat, threatening to kill her if she raised an alarm. The robbers snatched a five-sovereign gold chain she was wearing. They then ransacked the house, stealing another 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery and Rs 20,000 in cash kept in a bureau, before fleeing the scene on their motorcycle.

Police Response

Kalaiselvi informed her daughter, who alerted the Rasipuram police. Namakkal district superintendent of police S Vimala and Rasipuram deputy superintendent of police M Vijayakumar rushed to the spot and conducted an inquiry. Police registered a case. They gathered forensic evidence and started checking CCTV footage from the locality to track down the robbers.
