In a dramatic turn of events at a jewellery shop in Ahmedabad, a woman's attempted robbery was met with immediate and forceful retaliation from the shop owner. The incident, which occurred on November 3 at approximately 12:30 pm, has since gone viral on social media platforms.
The Failed Robbery Attempt
The would-be robber, a woman whose face was concealed with a yellow scarf, entered the jewellery establishment located in the Ranip Vegetable Market area. Posing as a regular customer, she sat inside the shop while presumably planning her next move. The situation escalated quickly when she suddenly threw chilli powder toward the shopkeeper's eyes, aiming to temporarily blind him and steal valuable items from the store.
Shopkeeper's Instant Retaliation
The chilli powder attack missed its intended target, alerting the shop owner to the woman's criminal intentions. What followed was a 25-second confrontation that has since captivated online audiences. The shopkeeper immediately rose from his seat and proceeded to slap the woman approximately 20 times in rapid succession.
In the viral video footage, the shopkeeper can be seen jumping over the counter and physically dragging the failed robber out of his establishment while continuing to administer slaps. The entire physical altercation was captured by the shop's security cameras and has been circulating widely across various social media platforms.
Police Response and Investigation
Despite the violent nature of the incident, the Ahmedabad Police have revealed that the shopkeeper has declined to file a formal complaint against the woman. In an official statement posted on X on Thursday, police authorities confirmed they have initiated an investigation into the matter regardless of the victim's reluctance to press charges.
"In this case, the complainant was personally met twice to obtain a statement in this regard and was asked to file the complaint, but the complainant businessman is not inclined to lodge any complaint in this matter," the Ahmedabad Police stated. "Nevertheless, an investigation has been initiated to search for the accused based on the CCTV footage."
The incident highlights the growing concerns about street crime in urban areas while raising questions about appropriate responses to criminal attempts. The viral video continues to spark debates online about self-defense, proportional response, and public safety in commercial establishments.
