VIJAYAWADA: A woman was sexually assaulted on board the Visakha Express by an unidentified man in Palnadu district on April 26, according to police. The survivor, a resident of Rentachintala mandal, was traveling with her husband in the general coach to Nadikudi in Dachepalle mandal when an unknown man allegedly offered them seats in an air-conditioned coach.
Incident details
The couple agreed and moved to the AC coach. However, when the husband briefly left his seat to use the restroom, the accused allegedly assaulted the woman, police said. The woman, who lives and works in Visakhapatnam, only told her husband about the incident after they disembarked at Rentachintala railway station. The couple then approached the police and filed a complaint.
Authorities have launched an investigation and are reviewing CCTV footage from the train and station to identify the suspect. No arrests have been made so far.
