A shocking incident of violence unfolded in the capital this week, where a 35-year-old woman was brutally stabbed multiple times by her long-term lover following a heated argument over a forced abortion. The attack occurred in the Om Vihar locality of Delhi's Uttam Nagar area.
Attack in a Rented House
The police reported that the violent episode took place on Tuesday inside the woman's rented accommodation. The victim, identified as Neha, was allegedly attacked by Yashpal (43), a married man with whom she had been in a relationship for eight to nine years. Officials stated that an argument escalated, leading Yashpal to pin Neha down on a bed and stab her several times in the neck with a knife.
After the assault, the accused fled the scene, but not before taking a crucial item. He allegedly took Neha's mobile phone and locked the house from the outside, leaving her injured and trapped inside. Despite her grave injuries, Neha managed to raise an alarm before losing consciousness. It was a neighbour who eventually heard the commotion and alerted the police, leading to her rescue and rushed admission to Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital.
Background of the Dispute and Forced Abortion
Investigations have revealed a tragic backstory to this violent outburst. According to police, Neha became pregnant in November. In a disturbing turn of events, Yashpal, who works as a security guard, is accused of administering abortion pills to her without her knowledge. He allegedly mixed the pills into a beverage, which led to the termination of her pregnancy.
This act of forced abortion became a major point of contention between the couple, sparking repeated disputes. The argument on the night of the attack is believed to have been another confrontation over this very issue, which culminated in the deadly stabbing.
Legal Action and Medical Condition
The police received a distress call about the stabbing at approximately 12:24 am. By the time a team arrived at the location in Om Vihar, the injured woman had already been shifted to the hospital. Doctors who examined Neha found multiple stab wounds of varying sizes on her neck. She also sustained abrasions on her hands and chest and was bleeding from her nose. She was unconscious when admitted.
The authorities acted swiftly and registered a case under Section 109 (Attempt to Murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Yashpal was arrested the same day and produced before a court, which ordered him to be sent to judicial custody. Police officials confirmed on Saturday that further investigation into the matter is ongoing.
