Nanded Woman 'Marries' Dead Lover, Alleges Cops Abetted Murder
Woman weds corpse, alleges police abetted lover's murder

In a shocking incident from Maharashtra's Nanded district, a 21-year-old woman has alleged that two police officials abetted the murder of her lover, a day after she performed a symbolic marriage with his corpse. The police have ordered an inquiry into the serious allegations.

Dramatic Allegations Against Police

Aanchal Mamidwar (21) claimed that on the day of the murder, her brother Himesh took her to the Itwara police station in the morning and pressured her to file a false complaint against her lover, Saksham Tate (20). She refused. She further alleged that two police officials from the same station provoked her brother, telling him to "go kill the man" instead of fighting with others.

"My brother was very angry. He told the police officials that he would come to the police station after killing Saksham. Then he killed him," Aanchal stated. She has demanded that her father and brothers be punished in the same manner Saksham died.

A Tragic Love Story and a Macabre 'Wedding'

The murder, which occurred on November 28, was prima facie a result of caste differences. Aanchal and Saksham had been in a relationship for three years, facing strong opposition from her family. The situation escalated when Himesh Mamidwar, the main accused, allegedly shot Saksham and then smashed a tile on his head in Nanded's old Ganj area.

In a dramatic turn, on Friday evening, Aanchal arrived at Saksham's home during his final rites and performed a marriage ritual with his body. She declared this act would make their love "immortal" and vowed to stay with his family. Videos of this act and her call for her kin to be hanged went viral on social media.

Police Response and Arrests

Reacting to the allegations, Superintendent of Police Abinash Kumar said Aanchal had not raised such claims earlier. "However, we have taken her statement on record. An Additional SP-rank officer will conduct the inquiry into this allegation," he told PTI.

Police have arrested Aanchal's two brothers—Himesh and Sahil (25)—and their father, Gajanan Mamidwar (45). All three have been remanded in police custody for three days. Six persons have been charged under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and the Arms Act for murder, unlawful assembly, and rioting.

Aanchal alleged her family has a history of violence and cases, stating, "Blood is like water for them." She claimed she discovered Saksham's murder only while reading a newspaper at the Itwara police station later that day. The police noted that both Saksham and Himesh were history-sheeters and were once close friends.
