Trichy: Two unidentified women, pretending to be health department employees, have stolen two gold chains weighing a total of six sovereigns from a 72-year-old woman near Big Bazaar street in Trichy. The police have identified the victim as R Mangammal, a resident of Kasiyapillai Street near Kallatheru.

Incident Details

On Wednesday, when Mangammal was home alone, two unknown women visited her residence and introduced themselves as health workers. After a brief conversation, they asked for water to drink. As Mangammal went to the kitchen, the women stole two gold chains weighing 3.5 sovereigns and 2.5 sovereigns, which were kept in a box, and fled the house.

Police Investigation

The Trichy Fort police registered a case on Thursday and are currently investigating the matter. Authorities are examining CCTV footage from the area and questioning locals to identify the suspects. The police have urged residents to be cautious of strangers posing as government officials.
