CHENNAI: The Vandalur All Women Police arrested a 32-year-old construction worker from West Bengal on Monday for sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl at Manimangalam on Sunday night.
Details of the Incident
The accused, identified as Jaidhan Mandal, 32, a native of West Bengal, was employed at an under-construction site in Aadhanur village near Manimangalam. Around 8 pm on Sunday, Mandal allegedly lured the girl, who was playing on the road, to a secluded spot near the thatched hut where he and other workers stayed. When Mandal began sexually abusing the girl, she managed to escape and ran home to inform her family.
Mob Justice and Arrest
Upon learning of the incident, family members and neighbors rushed to the construction site and identified Mandal. The residents assaulted Mandal before handing him over to the Manimangalam police. Mandal was subsequently treated for injuries at a government hospital in Chromepet on Sunday night. On Monday, the case was transferred to the Vandalur All Women Police Station, where a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Mandal was arrested and produced before a magistrate court, which remanded him in judicial custody at Puzhal prison.
