Yamunanagar Firing Suspects Discharged, Sent to Police Remand for Investigation
In a significant development, three suspects involved in recent firing incidents at City Mall and a private hospital in Yamunanagar were discharged from the district civil hospital and sent to a four-day police remand on Friday. The suspects had been undergoing medical treatment since sustaining injuries during a shootout with police earlier this week.
Encounter and Arrest Details Revealed
Addressing the media, Yamunanagar additional superintendent of police (ASP) Amarinder Singh provided detailed insights into the case. The trio was apprehended following an intense encounter near Sudhal village in the early hours of February 8. This police action came in response to a violent spree on the night of February 7, where the accused allegedly fired 13–14 rounds at a private hospital on Railway Road before targeting City Mall to drop extortion notes.
During the encounter, approximately 25–30 rounds were exchanged between the suspects and police forces. Two of the suspects sustained gunshot wounds to their legs, while a third was injured after falling from a motorcycle. Remarkably, two police officials, CIA-II in-charge Rakesh and CIA-I in-charge Rajkumar, survived direct hits thanks to their bulletproof jackets, highlighting the dangerous nature of the confrontation.
Misleading Identities and Gang Connections Uncovered
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the accused attempted to mislead officers regarding their identities. Gurlal, identified as the main accused, initially claimed to be from Kurukshetra but was later confirmed as a resident of Samana, Patiala. Similarly, Nitin and Sagar, both residents of Taraori, Karnal, falsely claimed to be minors; however, documentary evidence confirmed that both are adults.
According to ASP Singh, the attack was orchestrated by the notorious Kala Rana gang, specifically under the direction of Noni Rana, who is believed to be operating from abroad. The shooters were reportedly deployed to intimidate local businesses for extortion purposes, indicating a calculated criminal operation.
Evidence Recovery and Ongoing Investigations
Police recovered two pistols and four mobile phones from the scene of the encounter, providing crucial evidence for the case. ASP Singh emphasized that during the four-day remand period, authorities will probe the logistics of the crime. This includes investigating how the suspects established contact with their overseas handlers and who supplied the arms used in the incidents.
Separate Arrest in Related Gang Activity
In a related development, police have arrested Arun, a member of the Monu Gujjar gang, following his discharge from the hospital on Friday. The suspect was injured on February 2 after jumping from an underpass wall while attempting to flee a police encounter in the Chhappar area. He had fired two rounds at a CIA team during the incident.
Taken to the crime scene near Sialba village, a limping Arun expressed regret to the media, stating he was lured by the gang with false promises. He urged youth to choose hard work over crime, reflecting on his misguided path. A repeat offender, Arun was earlier jailed for allegedly firing at his own mother and had been out on bail since December 23, 2025.
Chhappar SHO Vedpal confirmed that interrogation is ongoing to dismantle the gang's weapon supply chain and identify his associates, underscoring the broader efforts to combat organized crime in the region.
