Yavatmal Excise Seizes ₹1 Crore Liquor in Major Operation

Yavatmal Excise Department Executes Historic Liquor Bust Valued at Over ₹1 Crore

In a landmark enforcement action, the Excise Department in Yavatmal has conducted what officials are calling its most significant operation ever, resulting in the seizure of illicit liquor and associated materials with an estimated value exceeding ₹1 crore. The contraband was intercepted while being transported towards Wardha district, a region where strict prohibition laws are actively enforced.

Intelligence Leads to Major Interception Near Ramtirth Village

Acting on credible intelligence reports, authorities had received persistent inputs indicating that substantial quantities of both country-made and foreign liquor were being smuggled daily from Yavatmal into Wardha. In response, a joint task force comprising personnel from the Yavatmal and Wardha Excise Departments established a strategic checkpoint near Ramtirth village, located within the Ralegaon taluka.

This coordinated effort culminated in the confiscation of a massive consignment of illegal alcohol. The seizure included not only the liquor itself but also one container and two four-wheeler vehicles used in the transportation. Preliminary assessments place the total worth of the seized items, combining the alcohol and the vehicles, at approximately ₹1 crore.

Counterfeit Elements and Multi-State Origins Uncovered

During the operation, investigators made a startling discovery: duplicate stickers replicating several renowned foreign liquor brands were also recovered. This finding suggests an organized effort to disguise the illicit nature of the products. Currently, both police and excise authorities are intensively probing the origins of the liquor and the suspected locations where it was being manufactured.

Parag Navalkar, Deputy Commissioner of the State Excise Department, provided critical insights into the case. He stated, "Our investigation has revealed that the consignment included liquor originating from Madhya Pradesh and Goa. We are pursuing all leads, and a thorough investigation is currently underway to dismantle this smuggling network."

Ongoing Investigations and Broader Implications

The seizure underscores the ongoing challenges in enforcing prohibition in Wardha district, highlighting the persistent attempts to circumvent dry laws. Authorities are now focusing on tracing the supply chain, identifying the individuals involved, and understanding the full scope of the operation. This bust is expected to have significant repercussions, potentially disrupting a major smuggling route and serving as a deterrent to similar illegal activities in the region.

As the probe continues, the Excise Department remains vigilant, leveraging this success to bolster future enforcement strategies and ensure compliance with state regulations.
