According to police reports, Raju Kumar, a resident of Barkathadih, had traveled to Barkanagango village to meet his friend Ajit Sharma during the Holi festival. Both individuals work together in Gujarat and had returned home for the festive celebrations. Upon reaching the village, Raju reportedly asked a 13-year-old child for directions to his friend’s house. The child, in a gesture of helpfulness, accompanied him on his motorcycle to show the way and even stopped at the house for some refreshments.
However, the situation took a dark turn when rumors began to spread rapidly through the village, alleging that a child had been taken away by a suspected lifter. Later, as Raju was reportedly taking the child back to his home, some villagers intercepted him on the way and assaulted him brutally, driven by the unfounded suspicion that he was involved in child lifting.
Officer-in-charge of Barkattha police station, Pankaj Kumar Sinduria, strongly condemned the incident and issued a public appeal. “The assault on the youth on suspicion of child lifting is highly condemnable. People should not pay attention to rumors and must inform the police if they notice any suspicious activity,” he stated.
