A tragic incident occurred in Ghaziabad's Dasna area on Tuesday, where a 25-year-old man drowned in a swimming pool. The victim, identified as Shantanu Thakur, a resident of Badalpur village in Greater Noida, had visited the Royal Swimming Pool on Ikala Road with his friends Manas Bajaj, Yash, Om Kaushik, Dhurva, Anurag, and Bittu.
Around 2 pm, Shantanu jumped into the 5.5-foot-deep pool alone. Shortly after, his friends and other pool-goers noticed him floating unconscious. They immediately pulled him out and rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body has been sent for autopsy, and reports are awaited.
Priyashri Pal, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Wave City, stated that according to CCTV footage, Shantanu lost consciousness within just three minutes of entering the pool. She added that the swimming pool operators, Majid Ali and Rashid Ali, residents of Mohalla Khari Kuan, Kasba Dasna, fled the scene soon after the incident.
Initial investigations revealed that the operators had a license to operate the pool. However, authorities are now verifying whether the pool had certified swimming coaches, as mandated by regulations.
