The body of a youth, missing since Sunday from Majorkuri village in Kamrup district, was recovered from a river near Hajo town on Wednesday, police said. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the case.
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as Munindra Deka, a resident of Majorkuri village. According to Punnam Pegu, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), a missing person's report was filed on Sunday at the Ramdia police outpost. Based on that, preliminary investigations led to the arrest of two persons.
Arrests and Confession
The arrested individuals are brothers Raju Deka and Mridul Deka. During interrogation, they confessed to killing Munindra following a personal dispute that escalated while they were under the influence of alcohol. The brothers beheaded Munindra and later dumped his body in the Kolajal river at Gendhelatari Hirapara.
Recovery Operation
Both the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) deployed personnel for the search. After hours of effort, they recovered the body from the river.
Investigation Ongoing
ASP Pegu stated that an investigation is underway to ascertain the exact motive behind the murder. He added, “Till now we got to know that there was another man involved in this case but he is absconding. We are investigating his whereabouts currently.”
Legal Proceedings
The two accused were produced before a local court on Wednesday, which granted two days of police remand for further interrogation.
