Youth Stabbed to Death in Darbhanga Village After Orchestra Programme
In a tragic incident late Saturday night, a 21-year-old youth was stabbed to death while returning from an orchestra programme in Darbhanga district, Bihar. The event was part of the Chaiti Durga Puja celebrations at Nadiyami village under the Kusheshwar Asthan police station area.
Details of the Fatal Attack
The deceased has been identified as Mithilesh Tanti, a resident of Mahri village. According to police reports, the murder resulted from an old feud with youths from the neighbouring Nadiyami village. Mithilesh and his friends had attended the orchestra programme and were intercepted at a secluded spot on their way home.
A group of youths from Nadiyami village allegedly attacked them with sticks and a knife. Mithilesh succumbed to his injuries on the spot. His friend, Santosh Tanti, who attempted to intervene, was assaulted and sustained injuries. Santosh was admitted to Sadar hospital and is reported to be out of danger.
Police Response and Investigation
Following the incident, police rushed to the scene and deployed additional forces to maintain law and order in the area. Kusheshwar Asthan SHO Gaurav Prasad stated that an FIR has been lodged based on a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, Munni Devi. The complaint names seven accused individuals and more than eight unidentified persons.
SHO Prasad explained that a clash had reportedly erupted between the victim and the accused during the orchestra programme, leading to Mithilesh being abused and threatened. Four accused — Ganga Mukhiya, Angad Mukhiya, Abodh Kumar Mukhiya, and Ashish Kumar Rai — have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.

Police also revealed that Mithilesh’s marriage was scheduled for June this year, adding a layer of personal tragedy to the incident. The community is in shock over the violent turn of events during what was meant to be a festive celebration.
Authorities are urging calm and have assured that strict action will be taken against all involved. The investigation continues as police work to uncover the full extent of the feud and prevent further violence in the region.
