Hyderabad YouTuber Brutally Murdered Over Dowry Demands, Husband Arrested
In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Telangana, a 20-year-old YouTuber was brutally murdered allegedly over relentless dowry demands in Korutla. Police have arrested her husband, Ch Haribabu, a 24-year-old private firm employee, for the heinous crime. The accused allegedly stabbed his pregnant wife, Gandham Vaishnavi, to death inside their home in the early hours of Tuesday.
Dowry Pressure Led to Tragic Killing
Korutla police confirmed that the killing was driven by unrelenting pressure for additional dowry from Haribabu. Metpalli DSP A Ramulu stated that the accused was tracked down and arrested on Tuesday night on the outskirts of Korutla following a crucial tip-off. Haribabu was subsequently produced before a court and remanded in judicial custody.
In his detailed complaint to the police, Vaishnavi's father, G Durgaprasad, a resident of Madhapur village, revealed the harrowing background. Haribabu married his daughter 10 months ago, despite the bride's family making it clear they could not meet excessive dowry demands. The couple proceeded with a love marriage on May 29, 2025, at a temple. Vaishnavi had built a significant following of 50,000 subscribers through her engaging family vlogs on social media platforms.
Escalating Harassment and Tragic Outcome
After the wedding, Haribabu's family allegedly refused to allow the couple into their house, forcing them to live at Durgaprasad's home. The complainant alleged that Haribabu initially demanded Rs 5 lakh as dowry, for which Durgaprasad purchased two guntas of land on the outskirts of Madhapur. Despite this, Haribabu demanded an additional Rs 5 lakh to clear debts, with Durgaprasad promising to provide the amount once they had children.
Tragically, the harassment continued even after Vaishnavi became pregnant three months ago. Durgaprasad claimed that at the instigation of Haribabu's mother, Lakshmi, and brothers, Anand and Ashok, the accused persistently harassed his daughter for more dowry. DSP Ramulu reported that Haribabu allegedly attacked Vaishnavi with a knife inside their room, resulting in her death.
Discovery of the Crime and Investigation
Around 6 am, family members noticed Haribabu leaving the house on his motorcycle. Shortly after, they discovered Vaishnavi lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab injuries and strangulation marks. She was rushed to the Korutla government hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Police successfully recovered the murder weapon and crucial evidence. After committing the crime, Haribabu roamed in Raikal and Mithapur areas, hiding the knife along with blood-soaked clothes at an unoccupied double bedroom house near Konaraopeta crossroads on the outskirts of Korutla. Acting on a specific alert, police arrested the accused from the location and recovered the incriminating items.
Ongoing Manhunt for Absconding Accused
Police have formed special teams to trace Lakshmi, Anand, and Ashok, who are currently absconding. The investigation continues as authorities work to bring all involved parties to justice and address the deep-rooted issue of dowry-related violence in the region.
