The victim, identified as Arjan, a resident of Nagla in Bajigar Basti, runs an IT company in Zirakpur and also manages his brother's club. According to his complaint, he received a video call on April 8, 2026, from a number based in the United Kingdom. During the call, the accused, who introduced himself as Shahzad Bhatti, purportedly claimed to possess detailed information about Arjan and his family members.

The extortionist allegedly cited the victim's growing business as a reason for the demand, threatening serious consequences if the Rs 1 crore was not paid. The caller went further, issuing explicit threats to target Arjan's family, friends, club, and business establishment, warning of violent action. Arjan reported that similar threatening calls were received two to three times from the same number in the subsequent days, escalating the sense of fear and urgency.

A formal case has been registered at the Zirakpur police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
