A 15-year-old boy lost his life after falling from a zipline ride at Agra Chowpati, an adventure and entertainment venue, around 5:30 pm on Sunday. According to police, the incident occurred when the rope's calibre hook allegedly broke. The Chowpati manager and safety incharge have been taken into custody.
Details of the Incident
The victim, identified as Kumal Agrawal, was a resident of Firozabad. He was rushed to SN Medical College by bystanders, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Upon receiving information, a team from Tajganj police station reached the spot, inspected the ride, and questioned staff members present at the time of the incident.
Investigation Underway
Officials are currently checking the maintenance record of the ride and the role of those responsible for its operation. Police are examining whether mandatory safety checks were carried out before the ride was opened to visitors, and whether proper equipment, supervision, and emergency response arrangements were in place. Further action will depend on the post-mortem report, technical inspection of the ride, safety records, and statements from witnesses.
ADCP (crime) Himanshu Gaurav told TOI, “Initial investigation revealed that the incident was caused due to the breaking of the rope’s calibre hook. The body has been sent for post-mortem. Other necessary legal proceedings are underway.”
Authorities Take Action
The arrest of the manager and safety incharge indicates that negligence is being considered a key factor. Police are also looking into whether the ride had been properly maintained and if there was any history of technical issues. The tragic accident has raised concerns about safety standards at adventure parks in the region.
