331 Hindu Families from Bangladesh Rehabilitated in Lakhimpur Kheri Villages
In a landmark humanitarian initiative, a total of 331 Hindu families displaced from Bangladesh have been successfully rehabilitated across multiple villages in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri district. The families, who were displaced years ago, have now been permanently settled, marking the culmination of a long-term rehabilitation process initiated by authorities.
Village-Wise Settlement Details
The displaced families have been distributed across four villages spanning three tehsils in the district. In Dhaurahara tehsil, Sujanpur village has accommodated 97 families. Mohammadi tehsil hosts the majority with two villages: Mohanpur Grant (41 families) and Miyanpur (156 families). Meanwhile, Gola tehsil's Grant No. 3 village has settled 37 families.
Agricultural Land Allotment for Sustainable Livelihood
To ensure sustainable livelihoods, all rehabilitated families have been allotted agricultural land. The distribution varies significantly across villages, tailored to local conditions and availability.
In Grant No. 3 village of Gola tehsil, each of the 37 families received an average of 3 acres of farmland. Sujanpur village implemented a dual allocation system: 60 families were given approximately 1.620 hectares (about 4 acres) per family, while 37 families received around 0.607 hectares (about 1.5 acres) each.
Mohanpur Grant village features a three-tier land distribution: 15 families received 3 acres each, 9 families were allotted 7 acres each, and 17 families were given 5 acres each. The largest settlement at Miyanpur village provided approximately 4.75 acres per family for all 156 families.
Comprehensive Government Support Systems
The rehabilitated families are receiving extensive support through multiple government welfare initiatives. According to Lakhimpur Kheri District Magistrate Durga Shakti Nagpal, eligible beneficiaries are accessing benefits under numerous central and state schemes.
Financial and Social Security Schemes: Families are enrolled in the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi for farmer support, Ujjwala Yojana for clean cooking fuel, and Kisan Credit Card scheme for agricultural financing. Housing assistance comes through Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, while social security includes widow and old-age pension schemes. Additional support encompasses Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana for girl children and Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana for community weddings.
Essential Services and Infrastructure: The rehabilitation package extends beyond direct financial aid. Villages now receive regular ration distribution, comprehensive vaccination drives, and employment opportunities under MGNREGA. Educational support through Samagra Shiksha ensures children's schooling, complemented by mid-day meal programs. Sanitation infrastructure has been improved under Swachh Bharat Mission, while road connectivity has been enhanced through Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
District Magistrate Nagpal emphasized that this holistic approach aims not just at resettlement but at complete integration and self-sufficiency for the displaced families. The combination of land ownership, financial support, and essential services creates a sustainable foundation for their new lives in India.
