Around 43 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the Falta assembly constituency by 11 am on Thursday as repolling proceeded peacefully, officials said. The Election Commission had doubled security arrangements for the repoll after the original polling on April 29 was countermanded following allegations of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) tampering.
The repoll, which began at 7 am, saw long queues of voters at several polling stations. No untoward incidents were reported from any part of the constituency during the first four hours of voting. Heavy security personnel, including central armed police forces, were deployed to ensure a smooth and fair process.
Enhanced Security Measures
The Election Commission, in its bid to instill confidence among voters, deployed additional security forces across all polling stations. Officials stated that the doubling of security was a precautionary measure to prevent any repeat of the incidents that led to the countermanding of the earlier vote. Voters were seen waiting patiently in lines, and the atmosphere remained calm.
Background of the Repoll
The repoll was ordered after the initial voting on April 29 was nullified due to reports of EVM tampering. The Election Commission took swift action to address the allegations, leading to the decision for a fresh vote. The repoll is being closely watched as a test of the electoral process in the state.
Voter turnout is expected to increase as the day progresses. Election officials are confident that the repoll will be completed without any disruptions, ensuring that the will of the people is accurately reflected.
