Akola: At least 70 sheep died after allegedly consuming toxic plant shoots in Tandali farm in Akola district, leaving a shepherd from neighbouring Buldhana reeling under losses.

Incident Details

As per officials, Mahadev Shingade, a shepherd from Lakhanwada village in Khamgaon taluka, had brought his flock of 150 sheep to graze in Tandali when the animals reportedly consumed shoots of a poisonous plant, showed signs of distress and collapsed.

Within a short span, around 70 sheep died, while others are said to be in critical condition. Preliminary findings suggest the deaths may have been caused due to toxic vegetation, possibly resembling tuberose-like plants, though confirmation is awaited.
