Eight people have died in rain-related incidents as heavy downpour continues to lash Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), according to officials. The region has recorded over 1,000 mm of rainfall in the past week, leading to severe waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and a rise in water levels in the area's lakes.

Authorities confirmed that the deaths occurred due to wall collapses, drowning, and electrocution in various parts of the city and suburbs. Rescue teams have been deployed to affected areas, and the administration has urged residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and neighboring districts, predicting more heavy rain in the next 24 hours.
According to Mrityunjay Bose, reporting for the publication, the MMR has recorded unprecedented rainfall, with some areas receiving more than 300 mm in a single day. The lakes that supply water to Mumbai have seen a considerable increase in storage levels, which is expected to ease water supply concerns for the coming months.

Roads in low-lying areas remain submerged, causing long traffic jams and forcing the closure of schools and offices. Local train services, the lifeline of the city, have been running late or suspended on certain routes. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has set up control rooms to coordinate relief efforts and is using pumps to drain water from critical spots.
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been kept on standby, and the state government has announced compensation for the families of the deceased. Officials have warned of further landslides and building collapses if the rain continues.
