The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday squarely placed the responsibility for the recent blasts in Amritsar and Jalandhar on the central government, asserting that the state government cannot be held accountable for security lapses under the Centre's jurisdiction.
AAP Chief Accuses Opposition of Politicisation
Punjab AAP chief Aman Arora accused opposition parties, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), of politicising the incidents and attempting to create fear among the public ahead of elections. He alleged that such incidents are often used to polarise voters for political gains. Arora emphasised that the Centre must be held accountable for the blasts, noting that the Border Security Force's (BSF) jurisdiction along the international border has been extended from 15 kilometres to 50 kilometres, bringing areas like Amritsar and Jalandhar under its ambit.
Ministers Echo the View
Cabinet ministers Harbhajan Singh, Balbir Singh, and Harjot Singh Bains echoed Arora's stance, stating that accountability for any security lapses rests with central agencies. They accused the BJP of attempting to disturb Punjab's peace for political gains, asserting that such attempts would not succeed. The ministers reiterated that the state government remains committed to maintaining law and order, but the primary responsibility for border security lies with the Centre.
The AAP leaders condemned the blasts and called for a thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice. They urged the public not to fall prey to divisive politics and to remain united in the face of such challenges.
