Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and workers staged a protest outside the office of Member of Parliament Rajinder Gupta in Punjab on Tuesday. The demonstration was held to voice grievances against the MP, whom they accused of neglecting the development needs of the constituency.
Protest Details
The protesters, carrying placards and raising slogans, gathered outside Gupta's office in the city. They alleged that the MP had failed to address key issues such as inadequate infrastructure, poor healthcare facilities, and lack of employment opportunities in the region. The AAP workers demanded that Gupta take immediate action to resolve these problems.
Demands Raised
Among the primary demands were the completion of pending road projects, improvement in the local healthcare system, and steps to generate more jobs for the youth. The protesters also called for greater transparency in the utilization of funds allocated for the constituency's development.
Speaking on the occasion, senior AAP leader and former minister Dr. Balbir Singh said, "The people of this constituency have been suffering due to the MP's inaction. We are here to remind him of his responsibilities and to demand accountability." He further urged the MP to prioritize the welfare of the people over political interests.
Party's Stance
The AAP has been critical of Gupta, who is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), for what they term as his failure to deliver on promises made during the election campaign. The protest is part of a broader strategy by the AAP to highlight what it perceives as the BJP's poor performance in Punjab.
Meanwhile, supporters of Gupta dismissed the protest as politically motivated. They claimed that the MP has been working diligently for the constituency and that the AAP's actions are aimed at gaining political mileage.
The protest concluded peacefully, with the participants vowing to continue their agitation if their demands are not met.
