Kolkata/Siliguri: After a complaint was lodged against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, another legal action has been initiated against Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. The complaint against Abhishek Banerjee was filed at the Bhowanipore Police Station for allegedly making provocative and hate-inciting remarks on social media. However, Lalbazar did not confirm whether an FIR has been registered.
Details of the Complaint
The complaint was submitted by Arnabkanti Das, a resident of Bhowanipore, who accused the Diamond Harbour MP of abusing his political power and attempting to disrupt communal harmony. As evidence, Das provided a copy of a May 2 post from Banerjee's X handle, which read: "Even if you are born 10 times, your 'anti-Bengal Gujarati gang' cannot harm even a fraction of my Diamond Harbour model." Das claimed that the post promoted hatred against a community.
This development comes amid a series of legal challenges for Banerjee, who was previously booked by cybercrime police over election speeches. Police have launched a preliminary inquiry into the matter.
Complaint Against Mamata Banerjee
Separately, an FIR against Mamata Banerjee was registered at the Siliguri Cyber Police Station. The case is linked to remarks she allegedly made during the 2025 Eid celebration on Red Road in Kolkata and later at a protest stage ahead of the 2026 elections. The complaint was filed by BJP worker and advocate Rinki Chatterjee, who alleged that Mamata's statements "hurt religious sentiments and targeted Hindutva ideology and the Hindu community."
Chatterjee stated, "I am waiting for whatever legal action can be taken under the law."
