AIADMK Finalizes NDA Seat-Sharing for Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections 2026
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has formally unveiled the complete constituency-wise seat-sharing arrangement for its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners in Tamil Nadu, solidifying the coalition's strategy for the upcoming Assembly elections. In a detailed announcement made from Chennai on Wednesday, the party confirmed that seven alliance partners have been collectively allotted 65 seats, while the AIADMK, under the leadership of Edappadi K Palaniswami, will contest the remaining 169 constituencies independently.
Seat Allocation Details for NDA Allies
According to the official release issued by the AIADMK, the seat-sharing formula has been meticulously crafted to optimize the alliance's electoral prospects. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been granted 27 constituencies, which include a diverse mix of urban, western, delta, and southern regions such as Mylapore, Aavadi, Thiruvannamalai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur, Madurai South, Ramanathapuram, Nagercoil, Colachel, and Padmanabhapuram.
The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) will contest 18 seats, spanning northern and western pockets with constituencies like Dharmapuri, Pennagaram, Salem West, Salem North, Vikravandi, Sholingur, Thirupporur, Uthiramerur, Perambur, and Ambattur. The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) has received 11 seats, including Mannargudi, Karaikudi, Nanguneri, Tiruchirappalli West, Saidapet, and Poonamallee (R).
Other allies in the NDA fold have been allocated seats as follows:
- Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC): 5 seats – Ottanchatram, Erode West, Ranipet, Kiliyur, and Kumbakonam.
- Indhiya Jananayaka Katchi (IJK): 2 seats – Pallavaram and Kunnam.
- Tamilaga Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK): 1 seat – Rajapalayam.
- Puratchi Bharatham: 1 seat – Keezhvaithinankuppam (R).
Strategic Implications and Alliance Consolidation
This seat-sharing announcement marks a critical step in the formal consolidation of the AIADMK-led NDA ahead of the high-stakes Assembly election scheduled for April 23, with vote counting set for May 4. The allocation not only clarifies the electoral battlefield but also sharpens the AIADMK's anti-DMK strategy, providing a clear structure for the coalition to challenge the ruling DMK-led alliance.
The timing of this release is significant, coming just one day after AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami unveiled the party's election manifesto, which features 297 promises centered on welfare measures. This transition from alliance-building to full campaign mode underscores the party's preparedness for the electoral contest.
Key Promises from AIADMK Manifesto
Among the headline commitments in the manifesto, the AIADMK has pledged a monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 for female heads of households under the proposed 'Kula Vilakku Scheme'. This financial support will be directly credited into the bank accounts of women from ration card-holding families, aiming to empower them economically.
Additionally, the party has promised a special one-time assistance of Rs 10,000 for every family in Tamil Nadu, a measure designed to alleviate the burden of rising prices and higher taxes imposed by the current DMK government. These welfare initiatives are positioned as central pillars of the AIADMK's campaign to regain power in the state.
The completion of seat-sharing agreements and the release of the manifesto signal that the AIADMK is now fully engaged in electioneering, with a focused approach to mobilizing voters across Tamil Nadu. As the political landscape heats up, this alliance arithmetic will play a pivotal role in determining the outcome of the April 23 polls.
