AIADMK Unveils Comprehensive Manifesto for Tamil Nadu Assembly Polls

In a significant move ahead of the April 23 Tamil Nadu assembly elections, the AIADMK, led by general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, released its manifesto on Tuesday. This extensive document outlines 297 promises across 31 categories, blending welfare initiatives with populist measures designed to appeal to a broad spectrum of voters.

Key Welfare and Populist Promises

The manifesto introduces a mix of ambitious schemes aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents. One of the standout pledges is the provision of free refrigerators to all rice ration card holders in the state, a move expected to benefit millions of households. Additionally, the party has committed to doubling the monthly financial assistance under the women's scheme from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,000, while also offering a one-time family relief of Rs 10,000 to help cushion the impact of rising prices.

In a bid to extend existing benefits, free bus travel will be made available for men, mirroring the current provision for women. The manifesto also promises three free LPG cylinders annually for each ration card holder and a complete waiver of education loans, providing significant financial relief to students and families.

Healthcare and Education Initiatives

Healthcare reforms feature prominently, with plans to bring IVF treatment under the chief minister's health insurance scheme, making it more accessible. In education, the party aims to increase medical reservation for government school students who clear NEET from 7.5% to 10%, promoting greater equity in higher education opportunities.

Infrastructure and Economic Measures

To boost tourism, the AIADMK promises free Wi-Fi facilities at all tourist destinations across Tamil Nadu. On the energy front, households installing solar panels will receive a subsidy of up to Rs 30,000 for a 1 kW unit, encouraging renewable energy adoption. An anti-drug task force will be established to combat the spread of ganja and other contrabands, addressing public safety concerns.

Support for Specific Sectors

The manifesto includes targeted support for various professions and industries. For journalists, the salary ceiling for print and television media will be removed, allowing them to benefit under the pension scheme. Farmers will see crop loans availed through cooperative societies waived, while fishermen who die during expeditions will receive a compensation of Rs 25 lakh. In agriculture, the minimum support price for paddy will be fixed at Rs 3,500 per quintal, with steps to ensure a remunerative price of Rs 4,500 per tonne for sugarcane.

Many of these promises were previously announced by Palaniswami during his election campaigns, underscoring the party's commitment to addressing key voter concerns ahead of the polls.
