Trichy: The support offered by a section of AIADMK MLAs to the TVK government to prove its majority in the assembly will neither dilute TVK's commitments nor the prospects of Congress getting ministerial berths, said Christopher Manickam, Congress Rajya Sabha MP, at Trichy airport on Thursday.
Ministerial Berths to Be Decided Through Discussions
"The two parties (Congress and TVK) will discuss and decide about ministerial berths in the coming days. There may be some hard bargains, but we should not take them seriously. AIADMK leaders in the past have moved to DMK. Just because they (ADMK MLAs) supported TVK, it does not mean that TVK's commitments are diluted," Christopher said.
Horse-Trading Allegations Rejected
He also rejected allegations of horse-trading levelled at TVK before the trust vote proceedings. On opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin's remark in the assembly on abolishing sanatana dharma, the Congress MP said the DMK leader's comment should be taken in the right context. "He spoke about discrimination based on caste hierarchy and not associated with a particular religion."
Secular Forces in Power and Opposition
Stating that Tamil Nadu has secular forces in power and in the opposition, the Congress MP said Joseph Vijay as CM and Udhayanidhi Stalin as the opposition leader will prevent BJP from making inroads into the state. The Congress MP emphasized that the alliance between Congress and TVK remains strong, and the support from AIADMK MLAs does not alter the fundamental commitments of the TVK government.
