Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of posing a threat to democracy, emphasizing the importance of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections in safeguarding the democratic system. Speaking to party workers and leaders from various districts of Uttar Pradesh at the SP state headquarters in Lucknow, Yadav asserted that protecting democracy is the responsibility of the SP.
According to news agency PTI, Yadav stated, "The BJP poses a threat to democracy. The 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls will be crucial for protecting the democratic system. If democracy is not protected, the Uttar Pradesh election could be the last election."
Yadav instructed SP workers to remain united and dedicate their full efforts to the upcoming Assembly elections. He urged them to prioritize booth-level management and voter list verification.
The former chief minister declared that the citizens of Uttar Pradesh are seeking change, claiming that the departure of the BJP from power is inevitable. He alleged that inflation, unemployment, and corruption have peaked under the current BJP administration.
Yadav further stated that the BJP government has failed farmers, noting that they are dealing with shortages of electricity, seeds, and fertilizers, alongside increased farming costs driven by rising diesel prices. Additionally, he accused the administration of failing to create sufficient job opportunities for youths, stating that scams observed under the current government have severely harmed the prospects of young individuals.
Yadav also accused the BJP of engaging in divisive politics and actively working against the "PDA" (Pichhda, Dalit, and Alpsankhyak) social alliance, which comprises backward classes, Dalits, and minorities. The SP chief alleged that individuals from the PDA community have experienced discrimination, harassment, and false cases, as reported by PTI.
Criticizing the Yogi Adityanath government regarding the state's law and order, Yadav claimed that crimes against women, robberies, and killings are on the rise. He pointed out that the safety of women continues to be a major concern in the state.
Talking about the accomplishments of past SP administrations, Yadav stated that his party established the groundwork for the development of Uttar Pradesh through initiatives like expressways, roads, stadiums, and IT City projects.
