Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has attributed the collapse of an under-construction bridge in Hamirpur to rampant corruption under the BJP government. Expressing grief over the incident, he described the deaths as deeply tragic and appealed to local SP workers to extend assistance to the affected families and injured persons.
Questioning Government Projects
Akhilesh questioned why infrastructure projects undertaken during the BJP government repeatedly end in failure. He alleged that corruption and loot have reached a peak and claimed that excessive commission-taking and “BJP guru dakshina” in public works were responsible for the poor quality of construction.
“Every construction project in the BJP government appears to be falling victim to corruption. Sometimes bridges collapse, sometimes water tanks crumble, station walls fall, and newly constructed buildings develop leaks,” he said in a statement.
Jal Jeevan Mission Concerns
Referring to projects executed under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the SP chief alleged that several overhead water tanks had collapsed due to poor construction quality and corruption. Akhilesh said that if bridges were collapsing even before completion, it raised serious concerns about the safety of public infrastructure once operational.
He questioned the government’s capability to execute large-scale construction projects and accused it of lacking both competence and accountability.
