Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has called upon the Supreme Court to take cognizance of alleged irregularities in the West Bengal electoral process. Referring to what he described as discrepancies, Yadav cited recent elections and bypolls in Uttar Pradesh as examples, claiming that similar issues had arisen during the counting process in those polls.
Speaking to the media, Yadav stated, 'The Supreme Court should take cognizance of the West Bengal poll process. There have been numerous reports of irregularities, and we have seen similar patterns in Uttar Pradesh elections and bypolls in recent years.' He emphasized that the integrity of the electoral system must be upheld and that any discrepancies should be thoroughly investigated.
Yadav's remarks come amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal, where opposition parties have repeatedly alleged that the ruling party has manipulated the electoral process to gain an unfair advantage. The Samajwadi Party chief urged the Election Commission to ensure a level playing field for all parties and to address any complaints promptly.
He further added, 'The counting process in several Uttar Pradesh elections has raised serious questions. If the Supreme Court does not intervene, such irregularities could become a norm, undermining the democratic fabric of our country.' Yadav's call for judicial intervention has sparked debate among political circles, with some supporting his stance and others dismissing it as a political move.
The Election Commission has yet to respond to Yadav's allegations. However, sources indicate that the commission is reviewing the complaints and may issue a statement shortly. The Supreme Court has not commented on the matter as of now.
Yadav's appeal underscores the ongoing concerns about electoral transparency in India, particularly in states where political rivalries are intense. As the country prepares for future elections, the demand for stricter oversight and accountability in the electoral process is likely to grow louder.
