Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Tuesday that Naxalism has been completely eradicated from the country before the March 31 deadline, attributing this success to the valour and dedication of the security forces. Speaking at a press conference, Shah emphasized that the government's relentless efforts, combined with the bravery of the forces, have led to the elimination of the decades-old insurgency.
Comprehensive Development in Former Naxal Areas
Shah further stated that as of May 19, 2026, the regions that were once under the grip of Naxalism will now witness a new vision of comprehensive development. He highlighted that the government has already initiated several developmental projects in these areas, including infrastructure, education, and healthcare facilities, to ensure long-term peace and prosperity.
Government's Strategy and Achievements
The Home Minister outlined the multi-pronged strategy that led to this milestone, including intensified security operations, surrender and rehabilitation policies for Naxal cadres, and development initiatives to address the root causes of the insurgency. He credited the coordination between central and state forces, as well as the support of local communities, for the successful eradication.
Shah also noted that the number of Naxal-related incidents had declined significantly over the past few years, with many top leaders either captured or killed. The government's focus on improving governance and delivering basic services to remote areas played a crucial role in winning the trust of the local population.
Future Outlook
With Naxalism now a thing of the past, the government aims to transform the former conflict zones into models of development and progress. Shah assured that the central government will continue to support these regions with adequate funds and resources to ensure sustainable growth. He called upon all stakeholders to work together in building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
The announcement marks a significant victory for the government's internal security policies and is expected to boost the morale of security forces and the public alike. The eradication of Naxalism is seen as a major step towards achieving peace and stability in the affected regions.
