Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah delivered a heartfelt tribute to Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, stating that her life embodies the principle that true leadership is about service, not position. The remarks were made during the release of the Gujarati translation of a book based on her life in Gandhinagar.
Shared Political Journey and Organizational Prowess
Amit Shah recounted his extensive work with Anandiben Patel within the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He revealed that when she was appointed the organizational in-charge, he was tasked with overseeing the documentation process for voting booths. Shah credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with proposing the crucial concept of 'booth rachna' (booth building), and noted that Anandiben Patel was entrusted with leading this initiative in Gujarat.
"That foundational exercise was later replicated across the entire nation in 2014," Shah explained. He emphasized that the systematic effort was instrumental in identifying weaknesses within the party structure at the grassroots level and strengthening it significantly ahead of the general elections.
Accomplishments as Chief Minister and Governor
Shah also highlighted the developmental strides made during Anandiben Patel's tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He specifically pointed to the acceleration and successful completion of the pivotal Narmada project, a landmark infrastructure and irrigation undertaking for the state.
Transitioning to her current role, Shah mentioned that Prime Minister Modi has advocated for Raj Bhavans (Governor's houses) to play an active role in societal issues. The PM's vision includes making Governor's offices instrumental in reducing Tuberculosis (TB) cases, ensuring 100% school enrolment, and promoting initiatives related to cleanliness and natural farming.
"As the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, Anandiben Patel has executed a splendid job on all these fronts," Amit Shah asserted, commending her commitment to these public welfare goals set by the Prime Minister.
A Legacy of Service Over Position
The event served as a platform to celebrate a political career defined by administrative diligence. By linking her early organizational work with the BJP's national electoral strategy and her subsequent governance achievements, Shah painted a picture of a leader dedicated to systematic work and public service. The book release became more than a literary event; it was a recognition of a leadership style that prioritizes ground-level impact over titular authority, aligning perfectly with the motto Shah invoked in her honor.
