Amit Shah Vows to Stop Demographic Changes in Three States

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday asserted that the government would not tolerate demographic changes in West Bengal, Tripura, and Bihar, emphasizing that the Centre is taking steps to strengthen border security. Speaking to Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at the Lankamura Border Outpost in Tripura, Shah also revealed that the government's 'smart border' project is in its final stages.

Demographic Changes Unacceptable

Shah declared, 'Demographic changes in West Bengal, Tripura, and Bihar will not be tolerated. The Centre is making all efforts to bridge the gaps in guarding international borders.' He stressed that the new security grid would integrate cutting-edge technology, local administration, and border sentinels to address challenges such as human trafficking, arms smuggling, and drug supply.

Smart Border Project

The home minister stated that the 'smart border' concept will be implemented as a pilot project in seven to eight locations across the country. He urged the Union home secretary and the BSF director general to visit border areas and hold discussions to ensure effective implementation. 'Every border has its own challenges, from human trafficking to arms smuggling to drug supply, but the BSF jawans do their best to face these challenges,' Shah noted.

Vision for Developed India

Shah emphasized that to make India a developed nation by 2047, it is crucial to stop the entry of fake currency, human trafficking, and drug smuggling from across the borders. He reiterated the government's commitment to not only stop infiltration but also identify and deport every infiltrator.

Earlier in May, Shah had announced that the government would launch a tech-enabled 'smart border' project by the next year to secure the 6,000-km frontiers with Pakistan and Bangladesh, aiming to defeat conspiracies to alter the country's demography. Speaking at the annual Rustamji Memorial lecture, he assured BSF troops of major technical assistance to make the borders impenetrable.
