Amit Shah Vows Swift Action on Gorkha Demands and Industrial Revival in West Bengal
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday made a series of significant promises during his campaign rallies across West Bengal, targeting key regional issues ahead of the elections. Speaking in multiple locations including Kulti, Sukna, Salboni, and Chandipur, Shah outlined the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) agenda if it assumes office in the state.
Commitment to Gorkha Community and Electoral Integrity
At Sukna near Siliguri, Shah reiterated the BJP's outreach to the hills, addressing the longstanding concerns of the Gorkha community. He pledged a "solution" to their issues within six months of the BJP forming the government. Shah alleged that the names of several Gorkhas had been deleted from the electoral rolls, a move he criticized as undermining democratic rights. "We will add their names to the voter list the day BJP assumes office," he declared, emphasizing the party's commitment to inclusive governance.
Revival of Stalled Jindal Steel Project in Salboni
In Salboni, Shah brought up the stalled Jindal Steel and Power plant, a project that has faced delays due to security and raw material issues since land was acquired during the tenure of former Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. Shah vowed to revive the project "at the earliest," stating, "Only Modi-ji can complete the project." This promise aims to boost industrial growth and create employment opportunities in the region.
Strong Stance on Poll Security and Border Control
Speaking in Kulti, Shah issued a stern warning against electoral malpractices, referencing the deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) by the Election Commission. "I warn Mamata Banerjee's goons that if they try to disturb the poll process, I will ensure they are hung upside down on May 4... and straighten them out once and for all," he said, highlighting the BJP's focus on ensuring free and fair elections.
Shah also sharpened his pitch on border security, framing the polls as a fight to "free Bengal from infiltrators and Rohingyas." He promised that the BJP would seal the borders with Bangladesh within 45 days of forming the government, a move aimed at addressing national security concerns.
Economic Promises and Job Creation
At Chandipur, Shah pledged to generate 1 lakh jobs every year under a BJP government, targeting youth unemployment. He also committed to restoring Kulti's status as a premier iron ore production hub, signaling a focus on revitalizing the state's industrial sector.
Push for Uniform Civil Code
Reiterating the BJP's national agenda, Shah emphasized the party's commitment to implementing a uniform civil code in Bengal. This aligns with the BJP's broader policy objectives aimed at standardizing personal laws across the country.
Shah's promises reflect the BJP's strategy to address local grievances while pushing forward with its nationalistic and economic development agenda in West Bengal. The pledges on the Gorkha community and industrial projects are particularly aimed at garnering support in key regions ahead of the elections.
