CHENNAI: In a significant political development, K Annamalai, who recently resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has announced the formation of a new political movement. He declared his intention to contest future Assembly elections under this new platform.

Reason for Leaving BJP

Annamalai stated that he joined the BJP with the aim of bringing about positive change. However, he now believes that the time has come to build an alternative political platform. He emphasized that the new movement would encourage participation from all segments of society, with a special focus on inducting more technocrats into the party.

Need for Systemic Reform

Speaking about the need for political reform, Annamalai stressed, 'We must utilize all available talent for the development of the state. To achieve this, we have to change our political grammar and culture. It is essential to end the era of cult politics and dynastic politics.' He further added, 'There should be no permanent MLA, MP, or minister, including myself. This will be the goal and motto of our political movement.'

New Political Party on the Horizon

Annamalai asserted that there is a clear need for another political party in Tamil Nadu. He announced that the proposed movement would be named the APJ Abdul Kalam Centre for Ethics and Politics, with its headquarters based in Coimbatore.

BJP Accepts Resignation

Meanwhile, BJP president Nitin Nabin has officially accepted Annamalai's resignation from the primary membership of the party. This move marks the end of Annamalai's association with the BJP and the beginning of a new political journey.
