Lucknow: BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Tuesday backed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into alleged irregularities in donations at the Ram Temple, asserting that the inquiry was initiated at the request of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
Speaking to reporters in Kanpur, Thakur dismissed questions over the absence of a First Information Report (FIR), saying the Trust had formally sought an independent probe from the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure a fair investigation. “The SIT was constituted following the Trust’s request. It should be allowed to complete its work without interference,” he said.
Thakur emphasised that the truth would emerge once the report is submitted. He accused critics of politicising the issue, alleging that those who opposed the Ram Janmabhoomi movement earlier were now trying to revive their agenda. The BJP MP urged all parties to allow the investigation to proceed without any disruption.
The SIT probe comes amid calls for transparency in the collection and utilisation of donations for the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The Trust, which oversees the temple construction, had requested the state government to conduct an independent inquiry to address any concerns.
Thakur’s remarks highlight the political significance of the issue, with the opposition questioning the government’s handling of the matter. However, the BJP leader maintained that the investigation would clear any doubts and reinforce the credibility of the temple project.
