Vijayawada: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will commence in Andhra Pradesh from June 15. Thousands of field-level officials will conduct door-to-door verification across the state under the supervision of the Election Commission of India (EC).
Details of the Revision Process
The SIR exercise, aimed at preparing accurate and updated electoral rolls, will begin with booth level officers (BLOs) visiting households and verifying voter details from Monday. The EC has instructed district election authorities to ensure a transparent process that does not inconvenience genuine voters.
Training programmes for BLOs and other election personnel have been completed, and arrangements have been made for distribution of forms and voter verification material. Electoral registration officers (EROs) and assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) have been assigned the responsibility of monitoring progress and resolving issues during the revision.
Verification and Voter Cooperation
BLOs will visit every household under their jurisdiction as part of the intensive verification. During the visit, voters must provide required information and supporting documents to establish eligibility. Chief electoral officer Vivek Yadav urged voters to cooperate with BLOs and keep necessary documents ready to avoid delays.
The revision process focuses on identifying and correcting errors in electoral rolls, including deletion of deceased persons, removal of duplicate entries, updating addresses of shifted voters, and inclusion of eligible new voters.
Role of Booth Level Agents
The EC has also involved booth level agents (BLAs) appointed by recognised political parties to support the process. BLAs will work alongside election officials by bringing voter-related issues to the notice of authorities and assisting in ensuring transparency.
The SIR will cover all assembly constituencies in the state. “The objective is not only to clean up the electoral rolls but also to ensure that no eligible voter is left out,” said Yadav. He added that the EC has launched awareness measures urging citizens to participate actively in the SIR process. Voters can check their details and access electoral services through the EC’s online voter services platform.
