The Indian Army has conveyed its displeasure to Captain Bharat Bhardwaj, a pilot who proposed to his fiancée at a passing-out parade, for using an official function and an operational Army helicopter as the backdrop for his romantic gesture. The incident occurred on June 2 at the Combat Army Aviation Training School (CAATS) in Nashik, Maharashtra, shortly after the graduation ceremony and aviation display.
Official Response
Army sources confirmed that the young captain's commanding officer has been informed to convey the displeasure verbally. A written note has not been issued, but the move is intended to maintain the sanctity of the official function. While there is no bar on an officer proposing while in uniform, such proposals cannot be made at official events like a passing-out parade, nor with operational equipment in the background, sources said.
The Proposal
Captain Bhardwaj, dressed in his ceremonial military uniform, walked onto the tarmac after completing his flight training and knelt before his fiancée, Arushi, presenting her with an engagement ring. An Army helicopter parked nearby provided a dramatic backdrop, and videos of the emotional exchange quickly went viral on social media, with many viewers praising the unique blend of military achievement and romance.
The Army's disapproval highlights the importance of maintaining decorum at official ceremonies and ensuring that operational assets are not used for personal purposes. Despite the reprimand, the captain's milestone and personal celebration have drawn widespread attention online.
