Massive Outpouring of Grief as Villagers Bid Farewell
As the flag-draped vehicle carrying JCO Singh's body entered Mokarampur, thousands of villagers gathered to pay their final respects. The air resonated with emotional slogans such as "Shaheed Suman Kumar Amar Rahein" and "Bharat Mata Ki Jai," while many mourners were seen breaking down in tears, overwhelmed by the loss of a local hero.
Details of the Tragic Avalanche Incident in Ladakh
Suman Kumar Singh was on active duty in the Ladakh region on March 26 when a massive avalanche struck his position, burying him under heavy snow and ice. An Army rescue team swiftly responded, pulling him from the debris and airlifting him to the Army Hospital in Lucknow for urgent medical care. Despite the best efforts of doctors, he succumbed to his injuries on March 27.
This avalanche was part of a series of snow slides that hit the Srinagar-Leh National Highway and surrounding areas on March 27, resulting in the deaths of at least seven individuals and injuring several others. The Zoji La Pass region was among the areas most severely affected by these natural disasters.
Family Background and Legacy of Service
JCO Singh is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters. His elder daughter is currently studying in Class XII, while the younger one is in Class X. The family has a strong tradition of serving the nation; Singh was the elder of two brothers, with his younger sibling currently serving in the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
A large number of people from Mokarampur and neighboring villages assembled to pay tribute to the fallen soldier. The last rites were performed with full state honors in the presence of senior Army officials and district authorities.

The ceremony was attended by State Minister for Rural Development Shrawan Kumar, along with district officials, MLAs, and other local leaders. The national flag that draped the coffin was formally handed over to the grieving family as a symbol of honor and respect for Singh's sacrifice.

The death of JCO Suman Kumar Singh has deepened the sense of loss in Nalanda district, which is mourning the passing of another serviceman within just two days. The body of merchant navy captain Rakesh Ranjan Singh had arrived in the district a day earlier. Captain Singh died after suffering a heart attack onboard the stranded vessel 'ASP Avana' off the Strait of Hormuz.
This crude oil vessel had been stranded in the Persian Gulf since February 28 after Iran shut down the strait amid ongoing conflicts involving the USA and Israel. The consecutive tragedies have cast a shadow over the community, highlighting the risks faced by those in service to the nation.
