In a significant initiative to honor military heritage and foster community bonds, the Indian Army's Spear Corps made history by organizing the first-ever inter-school annual meet in Tuting, located in Arunachal Pradesh's Upper Siang district. The event, held on Sunday, serves as a precursor to the upcoming Kepang La Day celebrations scheduled for November 17, which pays tribute to the courageous soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the historic 1962 Battle of Kepang La.

The event witnessed the presence of Tuting-Yingkiong MLA Alo Libang as the chief guest, who enthusiastically commended the army's groundbreaking initiative. Historical Significance of Kepang La
The commemorative event also served as an educational platform about the historical importance of Kepang La, a mountain pass situated at an elevation of approximately 1,455 metres (4,774 feet). Before the 1962 Sino-Indian war, Kepang La functioned as a vital trade route where local communities engaged in cross-border barter activities, exchanging goods and fostering economic relationships.
During the 1962 conflict, the pass gained strategic military significance when Chinese troops crossed through it to enter Indian-administered territory. This historical context underscores why the Indian Army commemorates Kepang La Day annually, honoring not only the brave soldiers but also the local villagers who displayed remarkable courage in defending their territory during the intense conflict.
