In a strong endorsement of the Union Budget 2026-27, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia has hailed it as a people-centric, progressive, and beneficial financial blueprint for the state. Speaking from Guwahati, Saikia credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for steering policies that have contributed to Assam's impressive 3.2% annual economic growth.
Key Allocations for Northeast Region Highlighted
Saikia emphasized that the budget demonstrates the Centre's focused commitment to the northeastern region through substantial financial allocations. He pointed out several key provisions:
- Rs 800 crore dedicated to forest conservation initiatives
- Rs 400 crore allocated to promote indigenous cultural festivals
- Rs 300 crore earmarked for tourism development projects
- An additional Rs 1,000 crore specifically designated for the Brahmaputra basin
