In a strong endorsement of the Union Budget 2026-27, Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia has hailed the financial blueprint as people-centric, progressive, and particularly beneficial for Assam. Saikia credited the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for steering policies that have contributed to Assam's annual economic growth rate of 3.2%.
Key Allocations for Northeast Highlighted by BJP Leadership
Dilip Saikia emphasized several crucial budgetary allocations specifically designed for the northeastern region. He pointed out that the budget includes:
- Rs 800 crore dedicated to forest conservation initiatives
- Rs 400 crore allocated to promote indigenous cultural festivals
- Rs 300 crore for tourism development projects
- An additional Rs 1,000 crore earmarked specifically for the Brahmaputra basin
According to Saikia, these substantial investments reflect the Centre's focused commitment to the development and preservation of the northeastern states.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Pranjal Kalita highlighted the historic significance of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presenting the Union Budget for the ninth consecutive year at Kartavya Bhavan. - Announcement of a dedicated northeast corridor to attract new industries and generate employment
- Connectivity improvements through the introduction of 4,000 new electric buses
- Support for Lakhpati Baideu and Self-Help Groups to strengthen women's entrepreneurship in Assam
- Benefits for traditional sectors including silk, bell metal, bamboo, and cane industries through the One District One Product scheme
- Allocations for girls' hostels and advancement of semiconductor projects
- Reduction in prices of essential medicines
- Special funding for upgrading Kaziranga National Park
Kalita emphasized that the budget places strong emphasis on critical areas including infrastructure development, industrialization, semiconductor manufacturing, women's empowerment, sports, high-speed rail networks, and inland waterways.
