Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday held a series of high-level meetings in New Delhi, including with Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan, to discuss the state's development agenda. The discussions centered on expanding healthcare infrastructure and accelerating economic growth.
Meeting with Union Health Minister
Sharing details on social media platform X, Sarma highlighted Nadda's significant contributions to strengthening the Bharatiya Janata Party in Assam during his tenure as national president, which played a crucial role in the party's electoral success in the state. Sarma expressed gratitude and sought Nadda's guidance for implementing several ambitious healthcare initiatives undertaken by the Assam government.
These initiatives include establishing new medical colleges, introducing proton beam therapy, increasing doctor intakes, and positioning Assam as a preferred hub for medical tourism. Sarma added, "I thanked him for his efforts and sought his guidance to implement the ambitious health sector schemes which we are undertaking in the state."
Meeting with Vice-President
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister called on Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan and briefed him on Assam's growth story and development initiatives. Describing the Vice-President as "an epitome of humility, hard work and dedication in public life," Sarma noted that meeting him was "always a learning experience." He expressed hope for continued guidance in Assam's journey toward becoming a developed state, or "Viksit Assam."
Meeting with Power and Urban Affairs Minister
On Sunday night, Sarma met Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar at his official residence in New Delhi. The discussions focused on Assam's development priorities, particularly in the energy and urban sectors. Sarma appreciated that the meeting, which extended past 10 pm, included senior officials from the ministry to chart out future plans.
The Chief Minister stated that the meeting aimed to formulate a roadmap to strengthen Assam's energy sector and achieve energy self-sufficiency. Khattar assured full support from his ministries, confirming that Assam's urbanisation initiatives would receive priority attention. This indicates closer cooperation between the central and state governments on urban infrastructure and development projects.
Sarma expressed gratitude for the support extended, which he said would help Assam pursue its long-term objectives in the power and urban development sectors. Specific projects or timelines discussed during the meetings were not immediately disclosed.
