Delhi Leader of Opposition and AAP leader Atishi launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, questioning the delay in delivering the promised Rs 2500 financial assistance to women in Delhi. She said that despite the “Modi ki guarantee” ahead of the 2025 Delhi elections, not a single rupee has been credited to beneficiaries’ accounts even by March 2026.
Atishi Targets Chief Minister Rekha Gupta
Atishi also targeted Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, accusing her of making similar promises to women in West Bengal while failing to fulfil commitments in Delhi. She alleged that the BJP’s policies have negatively impacted women, citing issues like changes in DTC travel benefits and the closure of Mohalla Clinics.
Demand for Clear Timeline
Raising the issue in the Assembly, Atishi demanded a clear timeline from the BJP on when women in Delhi will receive the promised financial support. “The BJP made a solemn promise to the women of Delhi. Yet, months after the elections, the money has not reached their bank accounts. This is a betrayal of trust,” she said.
Escalating Political Tensions
The remarks come amid escalating political tensions between AAP and BJP over governance and welfare delivery in the national capital. Atishi’s attack is part of a broader strategy by AAP to hold the ruling party accountable for its pre-election promises. The BJP, on the other hand, has maintained that the scheme is being implemented and funds will be released soon.
Political analysts view this as a significant issue that could influence voter sentiment in upcoming municipal elections. The Rs 2500 per month scheme was a key electoral promise by the BJP in the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections, aimed at providing financial support to women from economically weaker sections.
