The Uttar Pradesh government is setting up five Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) and 34 Automatic Rain Gauge stations across Pratapgarh district to ensure timely dissemination of weather-related information.
Real-time weather monitoring
District Magistrate of Pratapgarh, Abhishek Pandey, said that these modern stations capture critical data such as temperature, rainfall, humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and atmospheric pressure in real time. This system enables continuous weather monitoring, allowing the administration to take necessary precautionary measures promptly in the event of any potential natural disaster or significant weather shift.
Benefits for farmers and public
The infrastructure is expected to be immensely beneficial for farmers, the general public, healthcare services, and disaster management operations. Pandey noted that it will provide significant assistance to farmers in making weather-informed decisions regarding their agricultural activities. It will enable authorities to issue advance warnings to the public in the event of heavy rainfall, storms, or other adverse weather conditions.
Data regarding soil moisture and humidity provided by the AWS stations helps the government identify specific regions where drought-like conditions are beginning to emerge. Based on this information, agricultural relief packages or alternative water supply arrangements can be implemented in a timely manner.
Installation locations
In Pratapgarh, Automatic Weather Stations are being installed in five tehsils: Sadar, Kunda, Lalganj, Patti, and Raniganj. Additionally, 34 Automatic Rain Gauges are also being installed across various development blocks and other strategic locations throughout the district.
Public appeal
To ensure effective outcomes, the District Magistrate has appealed to the public to regularly obtain updated weather-related information from these centres and to strictly adhere to the guidelines issued by the administration in the event of a disaster or adverse weather conditions. He also urged people to disregard rumours and to rely solely on official information.
Pandey stated that real-time data regarding weather and rainfall is being made available on the website of the Uttar Pradesh government, enabling the public to access this information directly. He affirmed that the district administration is working with unwavering commitment toward public interest and safety, and that the disaster management framework is being further strengthened.
