Kolkata: The state government will investigate alleged corruption in the arrangement of the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said on Friday.
CM's Statement on Investigation
"The earlier government had arranged BGBS. One event management company was paid a total of Rs 635 crore. We will investigate this and start proceedings if anyone is found to be involved in this. We might refer the case to the agency which probes laundering cases. We will not spare them," Adhikari stated.
Minister's Directive for White Paper
On Thursday, the new Commerce and Industry Minister Tapas Roy had said that he had instructed officials to publish a white paper on BGBS. He also told TOI that the new state government will organise a large-scale business summit which will be a platform to interact with titans of industry. "This will also be a platform to present the views of the government as well," he added.
Background of BGBS
BGBS used to be the flagship summit of the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government. The summit envisioned bringing together corporate leaders, business delegations, entrepreneurs, academia, and think-tanks from around the globe with the purpose of making strategic and business alliances as well as to learn about the industrial ecosystem and business-friendly initiatives of the state.
Past Editions and Investment Proposals
BGBS had seven editions starting from 2015. The total amount of investment proposals announced in the summit has been over Rs 17 lakh crore.
