RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Confident India Will Lead Global South
In a significant address at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Lucknow, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat expressed unwavering confidence that India will emerge as a leader of the Global South, despite ongoing global tariff wars. He asserted that the country's economic resilience, rooted in household foundations rather than capitalist or banking dominance, positions it to withstand international pressures.
Economic Resilience and National Pride
Bhagwat stated, "We will not bow before any nation. After some time, everything will normalise." He highlighted that India's economy is uniquely structured, with deep roots in household-level activities, which provides a buffer against external economic shocks. This perspective underscores a vision of self-reliance and sovereignty in global affairs.
Emphasis on Hindu Unity Over Caste Divisions
Shifting focus to social issues, Bhagwat emphasized that Hindu dharma represents the true human dharma. He urged people to prioritize a unified Hindu identity over caste or sectarian affiliations. "Rather than identifying ourselves by caste or sect, we should see ourselves as Hindus," he said, noting that the caste system is gradually fading, especially among younger generations.
He pointed to the RSS as a model, where caste is not a consideration. "In the RSS, no one asks about caste. All are considered Hindus," Bhagwat remarked. He argued that to eliminate caste from society, individuals must first forget caste-based distinctions. He predicted that when caste ceases to matter socially, politicians who exploit caste-based politics will also adapt their strategies.
Call for Temple Management by Devotees
On the contentious issue of temple administration, Bhagwat advocated for freeing temples from government control. He proposed that temples should be managed by devotees, with religious leaders and well-intentioned individuals collaborating in their oversight. "We also want temple administration to be in the hands of devotees. Religious leaders and well-meaning individuals should jointly manage temple affairs, but for that, preparation is necessary," he explained.
He further suggested that temple funds should be utilized for national interests and the welfare of Hindus, aligning religious resources with broader societal benefits.
Strengthening Family Bonds and Religious Values
Bhagwat also stressed the importance of family cohesion and the transmission of religious values within households. He urged families to maintain emotional connections even when physically separated, ensuring that children stay connected with relatives and uphold family traditions. This focus on domestic stability is seen as foundational to societal harmony and cultural preservation.
